Throughout the year members of the Friends group are engaged in various activities in the nature reserve from putting up bird boxes in February ready for the Spring nesting session to tree planting from October to March. In between there are fence repairs, pond clearing, bench maintenance and other jobs that generally go un-noticed by the general public who use the reserve.
One such activity carried out by the members this year has been the planting of bulbs which should be flowering next year and the following year. In March this year (2024) members planted approximately five hundred Snowdrop bulbs in areas where Snowdrops show each year in the reserve. This was carried out to raise the number of Snowdrops that we already have and next year the planting of more Snowdrop bulbs will be carried out.
From late August members began to put in Daffodil bulbs for flowering next year. Up until the start of October they had planted approximately 1,000 Daffodil bulbs in and around various parts of the nature reserve, hopefully there will be a good show of Daffodils around Easter time.
